Almost Christmas already !

Just over 4 weeks until Christmas,where has the time gone. The mild weather has meant more rain but drier days see the temperature drop.

As the cold dark days of winter draw in the marina goes into a kind of hibernation. You see figures dart in and out quickly just to check that their boats are ok but not many linger for too long unless we get a blast of winter sunshine.

Even on the coldest, wettest days this place is extraordinarily beautiful. Set in a conservation area we have lovely views and stunning sunrises and sunsets. We have witnessed some jaw dropping super moons and the way the moon sparkles on the water is amazing.

There is also the wildlife. The resident swans are hilarious, hissing at everyone and the gulls swooping noisily after bits of bread. Early in the year when the weather starts to warm up we get hundreds of moon jellyfish and the fish are amazing jumping clear out of the water at times.

We feel very lucky to have been here at a time when things have been incredibly difficult for a lot of people. Many people have found solace in nature and we are lucky to live in and on such an inspiring place.

Winter is coming

Foggy and misty mornings , days of endless rain and wind and slow drop of temperature , you feel the winter is fast approaching.

The warmer, sunnier days bring a flurry of activity on the marina as boat owners look to shore up their boats for the winter months ahead.

The spluttering of outboards as last minute repairs and services take place before the cold weather really gets here. Repairs to boats that have drifted from the summer into autumn take on renewed enthusiasm to get done.

Over the past week T has been busy with work, the lockdowns have have seen him just so busy. This leaves little time and energy for the things we need to do here but we we’ve managed to get the anti freeze changed and a good wash down of the boat. If you think it’s bad enough to wash the car try a 50 foot plus boat !

On top of the big boat we also have a project on the go ( more of that to come), and we are pulling out the stops to get this finished. There’s never a dull moment and never nothing to do , honestly if there were 30 hours in a day we could fill them.

Autumn : Storm Aiden blows through

So Storm Aiden certainly made itself known over the past week or so. Howling winds and torrential rain had us rocking and rolling. A brief respite from the rain gave glorious sunshine almost like a summers day.

All too soon the rain has returned but luckily not much wind, although last night heralded one of the foggiest evenings I think I’ve seen.

Back in lockdown again we are once again trying to plan the boats work for early next year , having been cancelled twice now we are hoping that next year things can get moving. Then once the work is done we can get underway.
